Alberta’s Homeplace Values

Core Values:

Our Vision: Re-Indigenizing Motherhood

Motherhood, at its core, is about nurturing and creating—both of which are rooted in the wisdom of the land. Alberta’s Homeplace seeks to re-Indigenize the act of mothering by returning to sustainable practices, deep-rooted connection to the earth, and the collective care that once defined our communities.
We believe that mothering should be a dynamic and sacred practice, guided by the earth's cycles and rhythms, where every mother is empowered to live in harmony with nature. This means growing food, tending to the land, and raising children who understand the importance of stewardship and sustainability. It means reawakening the wisdom that was passed down through generations, and using that wisdom to nurture not just our children, but our entire community.
At Alberta’s Homeplace, mothering is a pathway to healing—not just for individuals, but for entire generations. It’s a way of living that sustains the earth, nourishes the body, and fosters community care in a world that often isolates and oppresses. Here, we reject the idea that motherhood should be a burden. Instead, we embrace it as a sacred calling—a force of creation, empowerment, and intergenerational care.

We Believe:

  • Mothering as a Sacred, Earth-Centered Practice
Motherhood is a sacred responsibility that connects us to the earth, to nature, and to the wisdom of generations past. At Alberta’s Homeplace, mothering is guided by the cycles of nature and the wisdom embedded in the land. It’s a dynamic, living practice that respects the rhythms of the earth—planting, nurturing, and growing in harmony with the seasons. In this community, we nurture children not just with love, but with the understanding that they are stewards of the earth and the future.

  • In the Healing Power of Community Care
We understand that healing is a collective journey. At Alberta’s Homeplace, community care is the foundation upon which everything else is built. By coming together in love, mutual respect, and shared responsibility, we foster an environment where healing can unfold. Mothers, children, and elders alike will find the support, connection, and empowerment they need to thrive. This is a place where no one is left behind, and every voice is heard—a community of care that uplifts us all.

  • In the Right to Health and Holistic Well-Being
Every Black and Indigenous single mother, and their children, have the inherent right to health and wellness that nurtures the mind, body, and spirit. At Alberta’s Homeplace, holistic care is central to our approach. We provide mental health support, alternative healing practices, and physical wellness programs that focus on the whole person, not just their challenges. We believe that true healing comes when all aspects of one’s being are supported—emotionally, physically, and spiritually—and we are committed to providing the resources and care that allow every family to flourish.

  • In the Right to Economic Prosperity
Economic independence is not a luxury; it is a fundamental right. Alberta’s Homeplace offers Black single mothers and their children the tools to thrive economically. With access to land to grow their own food, opportunities for sustainable living, and affordable, safe housing, we create the pathways for financial independence. This is a place where families are empowered to build wealth, create sustainable livelihoods, and secure their futures through collective resources and shared knowledge.

  • In the Right to Wholeness and Self-Determination
Wholeness means being fully seen, heard, and respected. Every Black and Indigenous mother and child has the right to pursue a life of their own choosing—one that aligns with their dreams, desires, and aspirations. At Alberta’s Homeplace, we honor the right to self-determination, encouraging women to create the life they envision, free from the constraints of systemic barriers. Whether through education, entrepreneurship, or artistic expression, we believe that every mother and child should have the space and support to live authentically and build the future they desire.
